Edition of 48 white pencils, inscribed. To be used in any space, time or culture where art has ceased to be necessary.

If you would like a pencil mailed to you in advance of the time at which art is no longer necessary, please explain your reasoning here. Fits a standard pencil sharpener. (Though an object of this quality fairly begs to be hand-sharpened in the manner of our forebears, for which the artist recommends David Rees.)

Supercruft Induction Terminal 2011
for Give & Take at PS², Belfast, Ireland

The Supercruft Induction Terminal allows the viewer to search for uncanny collisions of meaning within a hypnotic stream of video detritus. Using a remote control device the viewer generates abstract compositions out of found footage by exploiting the technical limitations of digital video. At the press of a button, compositions are printed onto photo paper. Several times a day all compositions are automatically posted to Science-Family-Government.com.

LiveDisasters.com is an interactive exploration of the televised disaster and the effect of real-time transmission on the recording of history. It is part video collage, part text and part un-fun video game. Begun in May of 2001, version 2.0 was released in September 2010. Additional levels are added as the events of history demand it.

Has Happened takes Total Information Awareness past its logical conclusion, imagining a world where Paul Virilio’s “time accident” has already occurred (/is occurring): where past, present and future calamities merge into an ongoing crisis of history itself. News clips are continuously pulled from a database and layered, while the ticker assembles a continuous sentence out of selections from Virilio’s Unknown Quantity.
